Travel Hacks For The Savvy Vacationer

From navigating unfamiliar cities and waiting in check-in lines to organizing your transport-shaken wardrobe, traveling is nothing if not a stimulating and stressful experience.

We want your journey to feel as glamorous and relaxing as photos and movies make it look. We’ve compiled a list of must-know travel hacks to take your vacation to the next level!

To save money on airfare costs, consider booking through third-party aggregate travel engines such as SkyScanner or Momondo to get the best flight price every time. Not sure which seat to select when buying your airline ticket? Head over to SeatGuru for a full pro/con description of every seat based on the aircraft type.

Rolling clothes > folding them. Not only will rolled clothes take up less space in your suitcase — they’ll also stay wrinkle free! Wrap a plastic shower cap around your shoes to keep your clothes clean and your shoes separated.

Use a pill box to separate and organize small items like earrings or beauty accessories (false eyelashes, anyone?). Contact lens cases are the perfect solution for transporting small amounts of liquids or gels when you don’t need the whole bottle. Think: foundation, ointments, eye cream, coconut oil. Designate one space in your bag or luggage for all things electronic – like chargers, plugs, headphones, etc. Toiletry bags are small, cheap, and work perfectly for this. You’ll thank us later.

Other Helpful Tips

Get in the habit of marking off your mental checklist any time you move from Point A to Point B, even if it’s just walking through the concourse to find a bathroom. Make sure you have your wallet, phone, ticket, and ID (or passport). Stay away from guidebooks and opt instead for crowd-sourced sites like Yelp when looking for food recommendations. Guidebooks will generally point you to tourist traps while Yelp will lead you to local and authentic options.

Need a ride to your hotel? Snag a cab from the departure zone of the airport rather than the arrival area to avoid massive taxi lines.

We hope these travel hacks come in handy for your next journey! Have some more tips to share? Tell us in the comments below! In the meantime, check out how you can Travel on a Budget!
