Meal Prep for Starters

Would you like to get in better shape, get healthier, or save money? Meal prepping is the answer and you’re in the right place to get started!

We’ve seen the Instagram fitness models with their crazy pictures of 20 prepped meals for the upcoming week. Looks like something you need the dedication of a Navy Seal to do, right? WRONG! Read along below and I’ll break it down for you.

First off, you’re going to need somewhere to store all that food. As far as containers go you’re going to want them to be stackable so they fit in the fridge. For convenience and safety; make sure they’re dishwasher safe, microwave safe, have air tight lids, and are BPA free.

That’s asking for a lot huh? Don’t worry, there are plenty of options like these containers. I’d also recommend some Ziploc bags if you’re like me and like to snack in between meals.

Choose your prep day

All you need to do is pick a day to cook your meals. I recommend one of your days off from the daily grind. Keep in mind meal prepping could take 3-6 hours. I know it sounds like a lot of time, but it saves you time and money in the long run. This way you’re not rushing to cook breakfast in the morning before work or just giving in and spending too much money on eating out.

For all you 9 to 5’ers, I recommend choosing Sunday afternoon. This way you have most of the day to get your meals ready and you’ll have food ready for most of your work week. Imagine that, not having to waste time or money figuring out what to have on your lunch break.

You can do whatever you want it’s YOUR meal prep. However, I like to take the healthy route. That means you should include protein, carbohydrates, and veggies/fruits. A good rule of thumb to go by is if your meal was confined to a plate; make sure half are veggies/fruits, a quarter of it is protein, and a quarter is carbohydrates.

My usual go-to is kale & pomegranate, a serving of chicken breast, and brown rice w/quinoa. Here are some recipes to help you get started:

Now, all you’ve got to do is choose WHEN you want to eat your meals! Happy prepping!
