Summer has drawn to a close, which means it’s time to break out the cozy sweaters, comfy boots, and pumpkin-spiced-everything.

This fall, we’re challenging readers to fully embrace the spirit of the season with a warm scarf and a strong drink in hand. Raise a glass to a summer well-spent with these rich and spicy cool-weather cocktails for the fall.

Mulled Citrus Sangria
Yields 4 servings


1 bottle red blend wine
1/4 cup fresh orange juice
1/4 cup brandy
3 tablespoons sugar
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 lemon, thinly sliced

Stir together wine, juice, brandy and sugar in a saucepan over low heat and heat until the sugar has dissolved. Add the orange and lemon slices and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Serve in heat-resistant glasses.

Pumpkin Pie Cocktail
Yields 2 servings


4 ounces Pumpkin Pie Infused Vodka
2 ounces dark rum
½ ounce Kahlua
1 tablespoon brown sugar simple syrup (1 part hot water, 1 part brown sugar until dissolved)
Splash half and half (optional)
Whipped cream (for garnish)
Ground cinnamon (for garnish)

In an ice-filled shaker, combine vodka, rum, Kahlua, simple syrup, and ‘half and half’ (if using), and shake until mixed. Strain into chilled cocktail glasses and garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Hot Buttered Rum
Yields 5-7 servings


4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cups light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Pinch ground cloves
Pinch salt
Bottle dark rum
Boiling water

Cream together butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a small mixing bowl. Refrigerate mixture for 45 minutes or until almost firm. Fill 5 small mugs with approximately 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture. Pour about 3 ounces of rum into each mug (filling about halfway). Fill the remainder of the mug with boiling water, stirring well. Serve immediately.

S’mores Martini
Yields 2 servings


1 bottle vanilla-flavored vodka
2 ounces Drambuie
2 ounces chocolate liqueur
Dash of chocolate bitters
4 ounces heavy cream
2 teaspoons honey
Marshmallow cream, for garnish
Cocoa powder, for garnish
Toasted marshmallow, for garnish (optional)

Coat the rim of each martini glass with marshmallow cream. Sprinkle with cocoa powder for garnish. In a shaker filled with ice, mix in the vanilla vodka, Drambuie, chocolate liqueur and chocolate bitters; shake until frothy. Strain into the prepared martini glasses. Add the heavy cream and honey to the shaker and shake until mixed. Pour the cream mixture over top of the cocktail. Garnish with toasted marshmallow.

Cinnamon Ginger Refresher
Yield 4-6 servings


8 ounces vodka
5 ounces ginger liqueur
5 ounces Prosecco
5 ounces fresh lemon juice
1 1/4 teaspoon agave syrup
1 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Cinnamon stick, for garnish

In a large pitcher filled with ice, stir together the vodka, ginger liqueur, Prosecco, lemon juice, agave syrup, grated ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Pour over into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick.
